| i used to draw all the time in high school. note books filled with black, blue, red, purple, and green ink from pilot pens would be open on my desk. the motivation i think was boredom. i didn't really enjoy class, plus i knew that i could draw instead of taking notes and still get by. i wish i kept drawing. it seemed like i was getting pretty good back then and if i had continued who knows how good i would be now. some people said i'd make a good tattoo artist. it felt like my perception of objects and ability to draw them had dramatically improved just from doodling all the time. maybe the digital age changed all that. maybe the ease of capturing a scene with the click of a button on my digital camera made me forget that i used to once draw scenes so i wouldn't forget them. when i draw a scene i capture all the aspects which appeal to me at the time. when the same scene is photographed, those aspects are lost to the rest of the photo and the scene may then take on new meaning each time it is viewed. those once important aspects are gone or at least forgotten. | |||
