| I've been scheming. I've had a big urge to rearrange my room. Some of the current issues include lack of storage, only watching movies from bed since there is nowhere else to watch them from, wanting a gaming setup, and there's no bed side surface for water or electronics. With some tinkering with Illustrator and a measuring tape, I think I've come up with a solution.
The design of the room starts at the bed since I like it's location. I can create extra storage underneath by raising it up even further so my rolly hamper will fit underneath. By making a larger platform for it, I'll have a place to put my laptop and water right next to the mattress. Secondly I wanted to focus on my desk area. Currently I have nothing in the way of office storage, so papers and doodads littler all surfaces. Bags have taken the place of file cabinets and dresser drawers are packed with office equipment and spare electronics. I have important papers in the same drawer I keep my gym clothing. So extra storage will be a must. I spent hours looking and researching desks. I found many amazing desks, but of course almost all the ones I liked were out of my price range. I finally settled on a modest desk with a drawer and fold down keyboard or laptop panel. It looks like there is enough room inside the desk to fit a laptop and a game console. It's got a nice finish, a drawer, and a cable hole in the back. It's part of EQ3's Milo series and they sell a nice little matching file cabinet. It's a narrow desk with no a lot of space, which I like. Less area to clutter.
The next issue I wanted to grapple was the entertainment. My desk monitor doubles as my media display. Because of this I'll need to setup my seating in parallel with my desk. Last I placed a coffee table with built-in storage by the window. I'd like to keep books and shoes in here as well as have plants on top. I haven't researched a solution for this, but this type of furniture is pretty common. The new layout will feel a bit more crapped I think, but i bet I'll feel more organized and use my media devices more often. Below are a selection of seven desks which didn't quite meet my budget, but were pretty neat none the less.
