| Hello SF MTA, I live on Dore Street, in SoMa, between Harrison and Bryant. I've been living here for a few years now and usually parking hasn't been a problem on my street until recently. I may not own a car, but I often rent or borrow cars or have guests over who drive cars. I'm wondering why there is only 1hour parking on my street from 8am till 10pm 7 days a week? Sunday our street is a barren wasteland with parking a plenty. We aren't around any late night businesses or restaurants and the neighborhood is pretty quiet after 6p. There is always ample parking in the area, plus both Harrison and Bryant offer 2 hour parking and only till 6pm and only on the weekdays. Why is my quiet, mixed zone ally subject to very strict parking schedule everyday of the week and why till so late? Is there anyway of petitioning to change these times and restrictions? Which brings me to my second question(s). I share my girlfriend's car about 50% of the time. The car is registered in her name and she lives in parking area C and has a C pass. I live on Dore Street, as stated, in U area. The car may not be registered in my name, but why don't I have the right to park in my own neighborhood without having to worry about moving my car every hour as to avoid getting a ticket? Why isn't there a way for me to acquire a U pass even if I don't own the vehicle? As a household (3 of us) we rent vehicles / borrow vehicles and have to worry about parking (right) outside our own house. I just want to buy a pass so I can park outside my own home. It seems like it's not only greener to share cars, but it also cuts down the total needed number of parking spots in SF. So why not reward people who share cars rather than punishing them in their own neighborhoods? I look forward to your response. Alex |
